Philosophy and Values
At Charnwood-Dunlop School our vision is :
Together as a community of staff, students and families we will create a safe and empowering learning environment where wonder and curiosity are nurtured and every child is empowered to reach their full potential. We will value diversity and build respectful relationships through effective communication.
At Charnwood-Dunlop School we use Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL); an evidence based, whole school approach to behaviour and learning.
PBL is a proactive, positive discipline model that is based on the assumption that desirable behaviours should be taught. This teaching-based model can be used for addressing problem behaviours in any school setting or for targeting specific problem behaviours with groups of students or with individual students. Consequences are clearly defined and taught to students.
At CDS we have embedded Positive Behaviours for learning into the everyday language of all students. Through common language, that is used by all staff, students clearly understand the expectations and are acknowledged with words and by gaining epraise points. As a team we are all working towards being safe, respectful and learners.
We have a points based system. As students earn points they feel pride in what they have accomplished but are also working towards trading their points in at the epraise shop. Some of the items that students trade for include handballs, hot chocolate, bike track time, teacher vs student dodgeball and water bottles.
Students also work towards gaining Milestone certificates which show that they have received lots of acknowledgement and points in one area. Please share these positive acknowledgements with your child and check in from time to time to see how they are going.
Following this simple but effective philosophy has a positive influence on the way students, staff and our community embrace each day.
